I might be in trouble because during my guitar lesson this afternoon, I realized I want to get an electric guitar. It’s perfect that this came up today because it’s my composer buddy Peter’s natal birthday, and his primary instruments are guitar and piano. It’s wild though because I want an electric guitar so I can play it quieter, easier, and faster. I started playing guitar in the 8th grade and practiced sporadically at best, but I started playing semi-regularly in 2014 and got going with lessons, too. Digging in and practicing during Covid would’ve been incredible, but I didn’t do that.
It’s funny when I learn what some people did. My nephew Jake finished his bachelor’s degree and didn’t tell anyone until he was done. I have a purple-belt friend into martial arts, and she got her black belt during Covid. She was elated when lockdown was over because she could finally spar in person. During Covid, Linda got a black belt, and I didn’t lose my marbles. We both did something important during Covid. I wasn’t practicing my guitar though and only recently got back to lessons. Loving it.
Today my teacher Alyce brought out one of her electric guitars. It wasn’t hooked to an amp, but I loved the sound. Sweet and tinny because the strings are so much thinner, so it’s easier to hold them down. I also love the weighty feel of the electric in my lap because it keeps me grounded. Funny. Grounded. Electric guitar. I sat with an electric for the first time a dozen years ago, and I learned it’s so much easier on the fingers. I don’t even know if I’ll get an amplifier. Right now, I have two acoustic guitars, and maybe I’ll trade one in if I’m getting an electric. We’ll see. My neighbor has an electric guitar, and I’ve only heard him play it a few times in 10 years. I think he’s got a Gibson.
Hey, if he’s not going to play it, maybe he wants to sell it?

Ask him! Gibson Les Paul's are the best!! You have the talent to master it! I want to hear you play! Woot!!
